ASIA COPPER WEEK 2017 GATTHERS LEADS IN COPPER’S BEST MOMENT

A year ago, the price of red metal was slowly starting to increase on the days following Trump election. However, industry players were calling for caution. For this year’s encounter, organized by the Center for Copper & Mining Studies (Cesco), the moods are more optimistic towards the market conditions before the beginning of the new cycle, dominated by innovation and sustainability.

More than 1800 people, 60 global leads and agents for more than 100 companies related to the mining world will gather in China in November 28th to participate, during 4 days, in the sixth version of Asia Copper Week, the main copper event held in Asia, which is organized by the Center for Copper & Mining Studies (CESCO).
This year, highest executives for the mining industry can participate in 4 events: 13th Copper Conference (November 29 and 30), organized by Metal Bulletin; 6th CEO SUMMIT (November 30); 6th Asia Copper Dinner (November 30) and International Wrought Copper Council & Shanghai Futures Exchange China Copper Seminar, (December 1).

The speaker for the main encounter activity -Asia Copper Dinner- will be the renowned Chinese economist Zhu Min, Head of the National Institute for Financial Research from Tsinghuan University (NIFR), former President of the Bank of China between 2003 and 2009 and former Deputy Managing Director at FMI.

Alejandra Wood, Executive Director for CESCO states that “this kind of events are key for an industry of few players in moments where it is noticed a higher optimism in mining and a more auspicious future is envisioned not only in terms of prices, but also in the relevance copper has gained in the so-called forth industrial evolution. On the other hand, it is crucial for this industry to understand China as the main copper buyer that has also released recently its 2050 view, giving technology and innovation a central role for development together with the care for our planet. It is a source of pride for Cesco and for the Chilean mining to organize one of the most important evets of the copper mining agenda globally in the buoyant city of Shanghai”.

The Chilean delegation, led by the Mining Minister Aurora Williams, will consist of the Chairman for Codelco’s Board Oscar Landerretche; the CEO for Codelco Nelson Pizarro; and the CEO for Antofagasta Plc, Ivan Arriagada. The latter two will participate as speakers in the opening panel for the 13th Asia Copper Conference, together with Yuneng Wu, Vice-President for Jiangxi Copper Co. Ltd.; Jeffray Gao, General Manager for China MinMetals Nonferrous Co. Ltd., and Shigeru Oi, Chief Executive Officer for JX Nippon & Mining Metals Corp.

Other Chileans participating in this encounter in Shanghai is Jorge Cantallopts, Head of Research & Public Policies for Cochilco, whom will speak about operating costs for the mining industry in Chile, as well as Alfie Ulloa, Executive Secretary for the National Commission on Productivity, whom will communicate the results of the study conducted by this entity related to Chilean mining productivity.

From Cesco, participants are its Executive Director Alejandra Wood, the ex-President of Cesco’s Board of Directors Patrick Cussen and its current President Leopoldo Reyes.
