CESCO PARTICIPATES IN THE LAUNCH OF THE CLIMATE-SMART MINING FACILITY

On May 1st, Cesco’s Executive Director Alejandra Wood participated in the launch of the Climate-Smart Mining Facility of the World Bank in Washington. It is the first fund dedicated to the ecologically intelligent and sustainable extraction of minerals.

This program will support the sustainable extraction and processing of minerals and metals widely used in clean energy technologies such as wind and solar power, and batteries for energy storage and electric vehicles. The purpose is to help developing countries, rich in natural resources, to benefit from the growing demand for minerals and metals while ensuring the mining sector is managed in a way that minimizes the environmental and climatic footprint.

Alejandra Wood appointed that “It is increasingly important that the mining industry that supplies the critical minerals for tomorrow’s economy produces them with a minimum environmental footprint, mitigating its impacts to the maximum and incorporating the necessary resilience and adaptation to the new climate scenarios our planet is facing. I dare say that Chile leads in many of these aspects. Technological innovation will allow environmentally clean solutions which will contribute to this turnaround”.
