Ernesto Sirolli and the social situation in Chile: “This a moment of reflection. Observation is essential to understand what is happening, it iss necessary to listen to understand what the community needs”

In an activity organized by Cesco and Icare, the founder of Sirolli Institute, an entity focused on supporting communities in their local economic development, made a presentation on how to capture people’s passion, imagination, and resources.

This morning it was held the Meeting “The future of each community lies in capturing the passion, imagination and resources of its people”, organized by Cesco and Icare, and with the participation of Dr. Ernesto Sirolli, founder of Sirolli Institute.

In the instance, Sirolli explained to the attendees his methodology of working with communities, based on empathy and local knowledge, and the importance of listening to people before delivering solutions to their problems. “We have a very western view of helping communities as a moral duty, from the cultural egocentrism of what we think they need,” said Sirolli. “The first principle of social support is respect. You need to listen to understand what the community needs.”

Regarding the social moment that Chile is living, Sirolli said that it is a key moment for our country, which allows us to reflect on how to improve. “Observation is essential to understand what is happening, it is necessary to listen to understand what the community needs”, he added.

Sirolli Institute was founded in 1985, and it’s a social entity that teaches local governments to capture the passion of their people, using the intelligence of the local population to undertake. The Institute has worked with more than 400 communities in more than 70 countries.
