Mining & Development

We offer a space for dialogue and debate that allows us to think differently on mining for the next 30 years. Despite its importance for the country and the magnitude of the challenges, there is no adequate discussion of its long-term prospects, and worse, the question of how to make mining industry a key player in the development of the country is absent.

The above is evident in the mining public policies’ discussion since the activity is only reduced to a role of resources provider for the Treasury. Either through Codelco’s surplus or Great Private Mining’s taxation, mining analysis on how to take full advantage of its potential contribution to the country is relegated to a quite secondary place. Mining can widely contribute to national development if we stop considering it only as a generator of income or tax for the state, as it has been so far.
