ANGER SPILLOVER, A COLUMN BY ALEJANDRA WOOD

There are moments in history where, from day to day, what is politically correct or publicly accepted, ceases to be. There are several examples in the last years, but there is no doubt about what has happened in the last weeks around all kinds of abuse: abuse of power, sexual abuse and abuse of conscience. In the case of gender-based violence, a wound open for centuries has been uncovered. Yes. Female gender has been, for centuries, an object of undermining in their dignity.

Just an example: in an unlikely conversation with two more women, also an unlikely meeting, and with this I say we were not friends, as easy as 1-2-3, we commented on episodes of our histories where there was abuse. A teacher from the university, the husband of a mom’s friend, a stranger.

At that moment we bet and, if we did a poll maybe all, the rights of all women had been infringed. From a pinch on the bottom in school uniform on, facts kept with a certain embarrassment, and hence, not shared.

Not to mention the gender gaps in the professional, legal and cultural fields, it’s just that the facts of the last weeks was the straw that broke a huge dam.

What did women show, apart from breasts? I think it was anger. Tons of anger coming out as a jet.

There was a discussion between women regarding if they had flown off the handle. That nothing would be achieved this way. That it is from the world of ideas where there will be possibilities of a more equal world actually opened. In a nutshell…

Discussion is welcome, as well as other kinds of protests so as to slowly highlight all levels of the unequal world of women and men. And let’s be patient with men that seem surprised, skeptical and many other bored with the “so popular” women.

I’m sure that at the most intimate level or conversations between couples, friends and people from work, we are all finally exchanging reflections. Most welcome!
